Everyone needs support

I learned early on in this journey, everyone needs support.  I am pretty fortunate.  I have a great family who always give me their unconditional support.   My daughter called me one day to invite me for dinner. “Mom, we want you to come over, but I am not sure what to fix for you.  Maybe you could bring something for yourself, but we could still eat together.”  I loved it!  They were still including me but understanding that I was trying so hard to be careful.  My poor son in law didn’t want to eat dessert in front of me.  I explained that I was full and no need to worry. The still invite me all the time to come and share their company.

My son grocery shops with me, and always is patient when I want to get veggies from a particular store.  “Whatever you need mom.” His sweet fiancé is the same.  Always so complimentary and supportive.   He tells me all the time, “I give you so much credit.”

I am also fortunate to be surrounded with friends who support, encourage and cheer me on.  I can’t ask for better friendships.  My friend, Mark, is always behind me telling me to keep going, not letting me get frustrated.   I have tons of people who are always telling me that I look better and seem more healthy.

Is everyone supportive? Heck no!  You find lots of people who question what you are doing, who encourage you to give up.  There are a lot of people who tell you what you are doing is all wrong.  I actually had someone defriended me on Facebook because I didn’t want to do weight watchers with her, got called unsupportive.

Once I got past some of the negativity, I started learning really quickly that you have to surround yourself with an envelope of people who support you trying to better yourself.  And the rest?  I moved them to the outer circle.   Yes, they are still friends, but I don’t engage them in conversations about what I eat or why I eat that way.

And Dr. Jack?  Well he is the best supporter ever!  If you email him that you are having a hard time, he quickly points out what great things have happened and why those are so great.  He doesn’t ever let you look at a negative anything.  He just jumps right in with, “Did you see how much your muscle mass went up last week? How great is that?”   I am so lucky to have found him because his positive attitude is absolutely contagious!

Never underestimate the value of the people who are cheering you on.  They are truly a blessing.
