You don’t have to change everything today….

Dear Chris,

I don’t know how you do it, but I know I can’t change everything.  I can’t give up everything. I just can’t do it………

Sighhhhh….. I read a lot of email like that… I hate that word, “Can’t.”   But, that’s a topic for another day…

Okay!  So you can’t change everything today. Can you change one thing today?  Just one?

Can you give up pop today? Or tea? Or coffee? Can you drink more water today?   Can you lose the gluten products today?  Eat more veggies today?  What can you do today?

The thing is that all of us can change one thing today.  And if today goes well, then do it tomorrow.  Then add in a third day! And before you know it a week has gone by.  Then add in another week!  And then it’s a month.

That’s one of the reasons I really like the concept of Dr. Jack’s thirty day gut rejuvenation program.  You can do thirty days! You know you can.  That’s not too long to commit to something.  And then when you see the benefits and the changes that come, you try another thirty days.  And suddenly months have gone by and you have all kinds of new habits.  You look better, you feel like a million bucks and can’t becomes can!

The biggest problem isn’t doing it, it’s overcoming that word, “can’t.”

You know, when I started I knew I had the commitment, but I was scared I didn’t have the willpower.  There were days I think I made it through one minute at a time.  It wasn’t that the plan was hard or there wasn’t enough food.  It was that old patterns are hard to break.  I wanted things, I wanted to eat stress related food.  I told myself we got this far, we are going another hour.  Some days were harder than others.  I actually had to physically leave rooms where some treat was calling my name.  But things changed.   Pretty soon, those old habits fell away, making room for new ones.  You can do it too! I know you can!

Stop thinking can’t and ask yourself, what can you change today??  I promise you can and pretty soon you will be ready for a big jump into “I CAN!”
